LEARNING ENGLISH WITH Mr. Dan from Canada

The students of  nine grade   have already finished  the lessons,  but  it didn’t   mean  that they were not willing to  study about  anything.  The school facilitated  them to learn  English  with  a native speaker.  For three years  in SMP Santo Yosef, they learned  English only with  their teachers, but   today,  on May  24, 2021  the  students got  a golden opportunity to  be able to communicate with a  Canadian.

Mr. Daniel  Proulx from ELC  accompanied ninth graders.  Around  100  participants  joined  the  PJJ which was  conducted via Zoom Meeting.  Mr. Paulus and  Bu  Natalina,  home room teachers  from  9 A and 9 D were also in the zoom meeting following the meeting eagerly.

Mr. Daniel  Proulx started his  meeting  by telling  about his country, Canada. Using  GPS he showed  his hometown dan  the school  where he went.  He informed that  the streets in Canada  are slippery  during  winter, because they were covered by snow.

For his learning material, he shared video  about a  young world traveller named Katza. She went around  the  world with his mother  to  find   heroic people.   The video was  very inspiring.  After  watching the video,  the students  were given  oral  questions  about  the video.  Some students were trying  to answer those questions. They were  Viola,  Yosefril,  Ivana  and  others.

The second activity continued.    Mr. Dan, then  shared  the link  of  Google Forms   for  students.   In the forms, there were 10  questions about  the video.   There were  52  responses   of  the form  received by Mr. Dan.  They seemed  that  the students  were  reluctant  to  submit  their works  because they were afraid  of making mistakes.

Seeing  the conditions, Mr. Dan  gave motivation  for  students  on how to improve  speaking skill.

Yosefril for  9 A  then concluded that  the best  way of learning English  is  having spirit. At,  10.30 the zoom ended .    The  meeting  was closed by a prayer by Michael Oby  from 9B (Veronica V Widjajanti).
